Another landmark, the Point of View sculpture, sits on the western end of Mount Washington. It depicts George Washington meeting the Seneca leader Guyasuta in October 1770. It also represents the clash of cultures and perspectives. And, as the artist James A. West once said, “There is no point in pursuing a utopian ideal when you can achieve one within your reach.”
One of Pittsburgh’s most popular scenic vistas is Mt. Washington, which has become an icon of the city. The sculpture stands high in the sky and offers a panoramic view of the city, including the famous Duquesne Incline. A trip up the hill provides a beautiful view of the Pittsburgh skyline and its riverfront. This site is also home to a large fountain that glows at night. Afterwards, you can take a stroll on the escalator to the top of the hill to enjoy the view and experience the views that the park provides.
If you’re not quite sure where to start your adventure, head east from the Monongahela Incline and take a scenic path around the backside of Mount Washington. From here, you can see the skyline and the surrounding area, including the mountains. The George and Guy trail leads around the backside of Mount Washington, but you can also try the grandview park to get a more direct view of the city. You can even find yoga classes and movie screenings at the park.
Another top-notch vantage point is the Strip District, which is home to specialty shops and specialty markets. Situated near the end of the former Pennsylvania Railroad Produce Terminal, this area is perfect for taking in the city’s skyline. The sunrise and sunset are particularly spectacular from the Strip District. Just be sure to check the weather forecast before you go. If the sky is cloudy, you might be surprised with the stunning views.
The Blockhouse is one of the oldest buildings in Pittsburgh. It was built in 1764, making it the oldest building west of the Alleghenies. It’s a must-see if you’re in the area. Besides the vistas of the city, it is home to some of the country’s top photographers. For a unique souvenir, you can pick up a calendar or photo book featuring beautiful scenes of Pittsburgh. You’ll also find souvenirs in the Shop section.
